Traditional forest huts (Wanderhütten) are dotted along the Rennsteig ridge trail and the ski routes around Oberhof. They serve hot soup, coffee, sausages, and simple meals — the kind of food that tastes exactly right after a few hours on the trail or the piste. Most are open in summer for walkers and in winter for skiers and snowshoers; look for them along the marked ridge routes south and west of Oberhof.
