At 978 metres, the Schneekopf is the second-highest summit in the Thuringian Forest. A marked hiking trail from Oberhof leads to the top through dense spruce and beech forest. An old observation tower stands at the summit, and on clear days there are good views over the rolling forested ridges stretching away in every direction. The hike is manageable for most walkers and makes an excellent half-day outing from the resort.
