Royal Tokaji is headquartered in Mád, about 12 km from the town of Tokaj, in a cellar system that dates back to the 17th century. The company was instrumental in reviving the classification system of Tokaj's first-growth vineyards — the "dűlős" — which had been abandoned during the communist era when all wine was blended into undifferentiated state product.
The tasting room offers flights of single-vineyard Aszú wines, allowing you to taste the difference between the volcanic soils of Nyulászó and the clay-rich Mézes Mály. The 5 and 6 puttonyos Aszú wines are exceptional — concentrated, complex, and capable of aging for decades. The historic cellar itself, with its black-mould-covered walls and long barrel corridors, is one of the finest settings for a wine tasting in Central Europe.
