The rivers and lakes of the Strandir coast around Holmavik hold good populations of brown trout and Arctic char, and fishing is one of the main draws for visitors who make it this far. The season runs from late April through September; permits are required and can be arranged locally. The fishing here is not as famous as Iceland's salmon rivers, but that also means less competition and lower prices.
The tourist information at the Museum of Sorcery and Witchcraft can point you to the current permit arrangements. Sea fishing and whale watching trips are occasionally organised from Holmavik harbour in summer — ask at the museum or the guesthouse for what is currently running.
