The Dolmen of the Four Maols stands on Primrose Hill, just southwest of the town centre. Despite the name, it is a cist burial monument from around 2000 BC, with a heavy capstone resting on upright stones.
The folklore is half the appeal. Local tradition links the tomb to four tonsured brothers who murdered Cellach, a rightful king and bishop, and were executed and buried here in pieces. The story is messy, memorable, and very Irish.
