Moyne Abbey is another major Franciscan ruin north of Ballina, completed in the 15th century in Irish Gothic style. It is larger than Rosserk and has the lonely, weathered feel that makes west-of-Ireland ruins so rewarding.
Come with decent shoes and low expectations of visitor infrastructure. The point is the masonry, the quiet, and the sense of a monastic settlement reduced to stone and grass.
