Clononey Castle is a compact late-medieval tower house built in the 1490s. Its plain strength is the attraction: thick walls, simple defensive form, and the kind of small castle that once controlled local roads and estates across the Midlands.
The site also has a Tudor footnote. Henry VIII granted the castle to Thomas Boleyn, father of Anne Boleyn, and two Boleyn family members are buried here.
