Derrigimlagh looks like empty bog at first, which is part of its charm. In 1907 Marconi built a transatlantic wireless station here, and in 1919 Alcock and Brown crash-landed nearby after completing the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic.
A signed loop trail threads through the bog past low foundations, interpretive panels and the landing-site marker. It is exposed, wet underfoot after rain, and much more interesting if you slow down enough to imagine all that communication history taking place in this apparently remote patch of Connemara.
