Glencolmcille Folk Village is a small cluster of thatched cottages above Glen Bay, built as a Donegal clachan rather than a conventional museum. The interiors show rural life across several centuries, with hearths, box beds, farm tools, fishing gear, and everyday objects that explain how people lived here before roads, electricity, and easy emigration changed the coast.
It is modest, local, and very useful. The cottages make the surrounding landscape easier to read: stone walls, turf, small fields, sea weather, and the hard economics of the west. The setting, looking over the bay toward Glen Head, is part of the visit.
