Knocknakilla

Bronze Age stone circle north of Macroom, with nearby prehistoric remains.

Knocknakilla is a prehistoric stone circle about 10 km north of Macroom. The circle dates from around 1500 BC, and the wider area has other remains, including Cloghboola stone circle and Glantane wedge tomb.

This is a countryside archaeology stop, not a polished attraction. It is worthwhile if you are already exploring the Macroom area by car and want a deeper-time counterpoint to the town's castles and Civil War history.
