A short walk west of Maynooth town centre, Laraghbryan is the site of an early medieval monastic settlement associated with St Brígh (or Brian), one of Ireland's lesser-known early saints. What survives today is a ruined 15th-century church and a graveyard that remained in use until the 19th century. The enclosure preserves the roughly circular shape typical of an early Irish monastic site, and several old headstones are still legible. It is quiet, rarely visited, and provides a useful counterpoint to the grand Catholic architecture of St Patrick's College — an older, plainer strand of Irish Christianity.
