Loughcrew Estate sits below the cairns and adds a gentler stop to a day around Oldcastle. The house is not normally the point of a visit, but the gardens keep traces of 17th-century layouts and old estate buildings, including the restored Orangery.
It works best after the hilltop cairns, when you want shelter, paths, and a more domestic layer of local history. Saint Oliver Plunkett was born at Loughcrew, and his memory is still tied to the estate.
