Red Island

Red Island is a small headland park connected to the mainland by a stone causeway — not a true island, but close enough. It is a quiet, open grassy space with good views across the Irish Sea and the ruins of an old windmill. At high tide the causeway is partly submerged and the peninsula takes on an appropriately insular character.

The park is used by locals for walking and sitting. The headland lookout gives a clear view of all three offshore islands — Shenick's, St. Patrick's, and Colt — and on clear days the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland are visible to the north. It is an easy 20-minute walk from the town centre or the harbour, and makes a natural end point to a circuit of the coastal path.
