Spiaggia di Scalea

The beach at Scalea Marina stretches for several kilometres along the Tyrrhenian coast, a mix of free public sections and equipped lidos where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas by the day. The water is clear and a particularly intense shade of blue, sheltered from strong winds by the headlands to the north and south.

The beach is backed by the pine-shaded lungomare, and the facilities — bars, restaurants, beach clubs — are a notch below the tourist-heavy resorts further north but considerably more reasonable in price. In July and August it fills with Italian holidaymakers, mostly families from Calabria and Campania. Outside peak season, particularly in June and September, you can have long stretches almost to yourself. The sea temperature reaches 26°C in high summer.
