Scilla Lighthouse

Active lighthouse on the northern point of the Strait of Messina

The Scilla Lighthouse sits on the rocky promontory just beyond the Castello Ruffo, marking the northern flank of the Strait of Messina alongside its counterpart, the Capo Peloro lighthouse on the Sicilian side. The pair has guided ships into the Strait since the early 20th century; the white tower is still active.

The lighthouse itself is closed to the public, but the path that leads to it from the castle gives the best clear view across to Sicily and back along Chianalea — the spot where most photographers set up at sunset.
