Museo Nazionale della Sibaritide

The Museo Nazionale della Sibaritide is the main repository for objects found during decades of excavations at the Sybaris site. The collection spans all three periods of occupation β€” from Sybarite Greek pottery and bronze work (7th–6th centuries BC), through Hellenistic Thurii, to Roman Copia β€” and gives a real sense of how wealthy and sophisticated this corner of Magna Graecia was.

Highlights include fine painted ceramic vessels, bronze armour, coins from the city's mint, and domestic objects that put flesh on the ancient accounts of Sybarite luxury. The museum building is modern and well-organised, with good labelling in both Italian and English. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 7:30pm; closed Mondays.
