Sorgeto Bay sits at the southern tip of the Forio municipality, a small rocky inlet where geothermal heat pushes through the seafloor and heats the water at the shoreline to temperatures that vary between pleasantly warm and scalding, depending on how close you get to the vents. There are no facilities, no entrance fee, and no lifeguards — just rocks, sea, and hot water available every day of the year.
The bay is accessible via a path of steps cut into the cliff from the road above — around 200 steps, steep and unlit after dark, so bring a torch. Alternatively, water taxis run from Forio harbour in summer. The best time to visit is after 9pm, when the day-trippers have gone and the only light comes from the stars and a few candles people bring down. The contrast between the cold night air and the hot water is one of the genuinely memorable sensory experiences on the island.
