Monte Settepani rises 1387 metres above the upper Bormida valley, an hour's drive on switchback roads from the village. The summit is crowned by a meteorological radar station, but more interesting are the well-marked walking trails and the views, which on clear days reach all the way from Monte Rosa in the western Alps to the Mediterranean.
The mountain was the site of a small but vicious battle in early 1945, when partisans tried to hold the high ground against German and Italian fascist troops. A few wartime emplacements survive along the ridge, and a memorial at the top names the local dead.
