The Parco dell'Adelasia is a forested nature park that spreads across the hills south and east of Cairo Montenotte, taking its name from a local legend about Adalasia, a medieval noblewoman who supposedly hid treasure in these woods. The park covers mixed broadleaf and chestnut forest on the Ligurian Apennine slopes, with trails ranging from easy valley walks to longer routes that climb to ridges with coastal views.
For foragers, the park is renowned for its porcini mushrooms and black truffles. Autumn is the prime season, and locals take the gathering seriously. Several marked trails circle through the park; the information point in Cairo Montenotte town centre has maps. In summer the cool forest is a relief after the coastal heat, and it's quiet enough to feel properly remote.
