Church of San Lorenzo

The parish church of San Lorenzo is the dominant landmark of Cairo Montenotte's town centre, its tall campanile visible from the surrounding hills. The current building dates from the 1630s, built in the late Renaissance style that was spreading through Ligurian towns during that period, though a church has occupied this site since the medieval period.

The interior holds several paintings of the Ligurian school and carved wooden choir stalls. The church faces a small piazza that serves as the social heart of the town — market stalls set up here on Saturdays, and the bar on the corner is as good a place as any to watch the morning unfold.
