Monte Galero

Monte Galero (1,708 m) is the highest peak in the immediate area above Nasino, rising on the northern edge of the Pennavaire valley. The mountain marks the boundary between the Ligurian coastal climate and the more continental conditions of the Piedmontese side, and the change in vegetation as you ascend from the valley floor is noticeable — Mediterranean scrub giving way to beech and fir, then open grassland and limestone outcrops near the summit.

The standard approach from Nasino is via marked trails through the valley forest. The summit offers views south to the Ligurian coast (visible on clear days) and north into the Cuneo hills of Piedmont. The mountain is popular with local walkers in spring and autumn when the lower elevations are not too hot. Snow closes the upper routes in winter. No technical climbing is required.
