Church of San Lorenzo

Seventeenth-century parish church on the village square

The parish church of San Lorenzo, on the central piazza of Pontinvrea, dates from the same seventeenth-century period as the d'Invrea palace across the square. The exterior is plain — stuccoed walls, a single bell tower, a modest pediment — in the spirit of a working country church rather than an architectural showpiece.

The interior is single-nave with side altars and the kind of straightforward late-Baroque decoration found in the smaller comuni of the Ligurian Apennines. The church is generally open during the morning and around the time of evening mass. It is the focal point of village life on Sundays and during the festa of San Lorenzo on 10 August.
