The Colle del Giovo is the pass that separates the upper Erro valley around Pontinvrea from the coastal slope dropping down toward Savona. At about 520 metres it is a modest height, but the road over it is one of the classic minor climbs of the inland Ligurian Apennines, popular with road cyclists and bikers heading between the coast and the Piedmont side of the range.
For walkers the pass is a starting point for chestnut-forest trails that lead in both directions along the watershed. It is also a useful way of getting to the village by a more scenic route than the autostrada — the SP542 winds up through the woods from Albisola Superiore on the coast, opening out near the top with glimpses back down to the Ligurian Sea.
