The little church of the Madonna del Carmine sits on the road leading from Pontinvrea up toward the Colle del Giovo, set in chestnut woods a short way out of the village. Like the parish church of San Lorenzo it dates from the seventeenth century, and like much of the religious building stock of these hills it is plain rather than ornate — a single nave, a small bell turret, a porch facing the road.
It is the kind of wayside chapel that pilgrims and woodcutters once stopped at on their way up the pass. There are no fixed visiting hours; you may find it open during local feast days. The walk or short drive out from the village is the main reason to come, as much for the surrounding forest as for the church itself.
