Roccavignale sits in the upper valley of the Bormida di Millesimo, a quiet wooded inland region that gets very little tourist traffic compared to the Ligurian coast. A network of marked paths runs through chestnut woods, beech forests, and abandoned agricultural terraces, linking the small villages of the valley.
A particularly worthwhile half-day walk follows the old mule path between Roccavignale and neighbouring Millesimo or Murialdo, passing the castle ruins, isolated chapels, and a number of restored medieval bridges. The wider area is part of the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri network for longer-distance hikers. Autumn, with the chestnut harvest, is the best season.
