Spotorno Beach

A long curve of fine pale sand running the length of the town — unusual on this stretch of the Ligurian coast, where pebble beaches are the norm. The beach is split between free public sections and the rows of attendant umbrellas of the stabilimenti balneari, the family-run beach clubs that have been there for generations. The water shelves gently and is good for children.

The view across the bay takes in the wooded island of Bergeggi on one side and the medieval profile of Noli on the other. Behind, the colourful houses of the old town climb the hillside under the ruined castle. Walk the length of the seafront at sunset for the best Ponente light.
