The old hilltop town above the modern spa district is worth a half-hour stroll. The medieval streets are quiet compared to the terma-town below, with a Romanesque church, a small local museum, and views across the Val di Chiana that stretch toward Montepulciano on a clear day.
The Museo Civico Archeologico delle Acque houses finds from the Etruscan and Roman occupation of the area, including votive offerings left at the springs over centuries — proof that the curative reputation of these waters predates Italian tourism by about two millennia. The museum is small but the exhibits are genuine and interesting.
