The SP 16 road from Figline north toward Greve in Chianti is one of the classic Tuscan drives — narrow roads through vineyards and olive groves, past hilltop farmhouses and the occasional medieval tower. The route climbs out of the Arno valley into the Chianti hills within a few kilometres of Figline and stays in that world all the way to Greve, about 15 km north.
Along the way there are numerous estate wineries offering tastings, several agritourism places with good food, and views across the hills that have made this landscape one of the most painted and photographed in Italy. Greve itself has a fine central square and a reliable place to buy Chianti Classico wine by the glass or bottle. The drive takes about 30 minutes without stops; with stops for wine and views, allow a full afternoon.
