The English Cemetery

The English Cemetery is a 19th-century Protestant cemetery on a traffic island east of Florence's historic centre. Despite the name, it received many non-Catholic foreigners, including British, American, Russian Orthodox, and Swiss residents.

The most famous grave is that of poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning. The cemetery is small, but its cypress trees, worn monuments, and literary associations make it a quiet and distinctive stop between San Marco and Santa Croce.
