Castelfalfi is a medieval hamlet perched on a hilltop about six kilometres west of Montaione, centred on a fortified tower and castle visible from across the surrounding valleys. The hamlet fell into near-abandonment by the late twentieth century before being purchased and restored by a German development company, which turned it into a luxury resort while preserving the medieval core and the parish church. The result is somewhat sanitised, but the setting and the restoration quality are genuine.
The Castelfalfi Golf Club offers 27 holes spread across the Tuscan hillside, with views over vineyards, olive groves, and the distant towers of San Gimignano on clear days. Non-golfers come for the medieval architecture, the restaurant, and the walks through the estate's agricultural land. The hamlet is reachable by car on a gravel road — only accessible on foot or by bicycle from the main approach, which adds to the sense of arrival.
