Palazzo Pretorio Civic Museum

The Palazzo Pretorio occupies the historic seat of local government in the heart of Montaione's old centre. The civic museum inside tells the story of the territory from its prehistoric and Etruscan beginnings through Roman occupation to the medieval period, using archaeological finds recovered from excavations across the Montaione area. Display cases hold funerary objects, pottery fragments, coins, and bronze tools, along with finds related to the area's ancient tradition of glass production.

The building itself is worth seeing — the coats of arms of various podestà carved into the external facade are a record of the town's medieval governance. The museum is small and can be visited in under an hour, but the quality of some of the individual objects justifies the stop. Opening hours are limited; check locally for current times.
