Punta Ala Marina

The marina at Punta Ala is one of the best-equipped on the Tuscan coast, with berths for several hundred boats and full services including fuel, maintenance, and provisioning. For non-sailors, the quayside makes a pleasant evening stroll — fishing boats tie up alongside sleek motor yachts, and the view back toward the headland with the pine trees above it is good at any time of day.

The sailing club organises regattas throughout the summer, and the bay between the marina and the Isola del Giglio in the distance fills with racing sails on weekends. Several operators offer boat hire for those who want to explore the coast toward Castiglione della Pescaia or cross to the Island of Elba.

A story
Punta Ala's sailing club, founded in 1932, has hosted some of the most prestigious regattas in the Mediterranean, including the Admiral's Cup, and the bay regularly fills with racing yachts in summer. The marina was also the scene of an unusual Cold War episode: in the 1970s and 1980s it became known as a discreet gathering point for industrialists and politicians seeking privacy, and several significant backroom negotiations reportedly took place on yachts moored here.
