Basilica of St Michael the Archangel

MarijampolÄ—'s main Catholic church, tied to the Marian Fathers and the town's origin story.

The Basilica of St Michael the Archangel is the town's main historic anchor. The Marian Fathers were central to the settlement that became MarijampolÄ—, and the church still gives the centre a sense of depth that the newer streets do not.

Inside, look for the shrine of Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis, a bishop and Marian reformer whose remains were reburied here in 1934.
