Mečkin Kamen

Hilltop battle site south of Kruševo, central to the story of the 1903 uprising.

Mečkin Kamen, or Bear's Stone, is the hill south of town where insurgents fought Ottoman forces during the Ilinden uprising. Pitu Guli and many of his men died here, and the site remains one of Kruševo's main places of memory.

Come for the history, but also for the open mountain setting. The road and paths above town give a stronger sense of Kruševo's altitude and isolation than the compact centre does.
