Attard sits at the centre of what the Maltese call the Three Villages — Attard, Balzan, and Lija — a contiguous patch of leafy old streets running into one another with no real boundaries between them. The settlements grew up around the country palaces of wealthy Maltese families in the 17th and 18th centuries and remain among the most desirable addresses on the island.
The walk between them takes about 90 minutes at an unhurried pace. Highlights along the way include the Annunciation Church in Balzan, the Belvedere Tower and Our Saviour's Church in Lija, and the network of narrow lanes lined with carved stone balconies and brass door knockers. Start at San Anton Gardens and loop back through Lija.
