Villa Bologna

Villa Bologna is the grandest of Attard's 18th-century villas, set in walled grounds just north of the main square. The house itself remains a private family home, but the gardens are open for guided tours.

The garden is laid out as a series of formal terraces with citrus groves, oleander hedges, and a long water tank. A working pottery in the converted stables turns out hand-thrown Maltese ceramics; visitors can watch the process and buy direct. Tours are by appointment and best booked a day or two ahead.

A story
Villa Bologna was built in 1745 by Fabrizio Grech as a wedding present for his daughter Maria Teresa. It has remained in the same family ever since — the current owners, descendants of the original Strickland family who married into it, run garden tours and a small pottery workshop on the estate.
