Hîncești sits in the southern part of the Codru wine region, Moldova's largest and oldest wine-producing area. Several wineries in and around the town offer tastings and cellar tours, including Château Vartely — one of the country's most visitor-friendly estates — located a few kilometres from the town centre.
The Codru appellation produces mostly white wines from local varieties like Fetească Albă and Fetească Regală, though Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are grown here too. For an overview of the whole region, the underground cellars at Mileștii Mici — the world's largest wine cellar by volume, south of Chișinău — are within easy reach by car.
