The Memorial of Glory (Memorialul Gloriei) is the city's main Soviet war memorial, dedicated to the soldiers of the Red Army who died in the liberation of Bender in 1944 and, since the 1990s, to the dead of the Transnistria War of 1992. It follows a familiar Soviet template — a slab-sided concrete structure, an eternal flame, a wall of names, a row of cypresses — but it is well kept, and it carries a clear contemporary meaning in a city that still considers the 1992 conflict an open wound.
The memorial sits in a small landscaped square just off the main central thoroughfare and is a useful orientation point. Worth a brief visit; combine with the cathedral nearby.
