Vikingskipet, officially Hamar Olympic Hall, is the speed-skating arena built for the 1994 Winter Olympics. Its nickname means "the Viking ship", and the huge timber-like roof really does read as an overturned hull beside the wetland edge of Akersvika.
It is most rewarding when an event is on, but even from outside it is one of Norway's more memorable Olympic buildings. Birders should also look toward Akersvika, the nature reserve beside the arena.
