Bielsko's cathedral has a long, layered history: a parish church here is documented from the late fourteenth century, the Gothic core dates to the sixteenth, and the dramatic tower that now defines its silhouette was added at the start of the twentieth. The interior is restrained — whitewashed walls, ribbed vaulting, a mix of Baroque and neo-Gothic altars — and the acoustics make it a popular venue for choral concerts.
The cathedral sits on the highest point of the old Bielsko side, a short uphill walk from the main square. The square in front offers one of the better views back down over the rooftops to the Biała river. Inside, look for the late-Gothic baptismal font and the side chapel devoted to Bielsko-born martyr Jan Sarkander.
