The Archaeological and Historical Museum stands near the river on the remains of the old Teutonic castle site. Its strongest material covers Elbląg's destroyed and excavated Old Town, along with finds from Truso, the early medieval trading settlement once active near Lake Drużno.
It is a good counterweight to the pretty rebuilt streets outside. The museum explains why Elbląg matters historically, not just why it is pleasant to wander today.
