The Elbląg Canal is the reason many travellers come here. Built in the 19th century, it links Elbląg with the lake district through a chain of locks and inclined planes, where boats leave the water and ride across grass on wheeled cradles.
Full canal trips take much of the day, but shorter rides still give you the essential experience. The terminal sits by the Old Town, so it is easy to combine a boat trip with the cathedral, museum, and riverside streets.
