St Nicholas Cathedral is the focal point of Elbląg's Old Town, a large brick church whose tower rises above the rebuilt merchant streets around it. The building goes back to the 13th century, though like much of central Elbląg it carries scars and repairs from the Second World War.
Climb the tower if it is open. The view makes the city's geography clear: the compact old centre, the river, the canal route, and the flat delta landscape beyond.
