Corpus Christi Procession

Address Stary Rynek, 99-400 Łowicz, Poland

The Corpus Christi procession in Łowicz is one of the most spectacular folk festivals in Poland, held annually on the Thursday 60 days after Easter (late May or June). Hundreds of local residents dress in the traditional Łowicz costume — women in layered skirts of bold horizontal stripes with floral headdresses, men in embroidered jackets — and process through streets carpeted with flower-petal designs arranged in elaborate patterns.

The procession has been observed continuously for centuries. It is not a performance for tourists but a living religious and cultural tradition in which the entire town participates. Visitors are welcome but should be respectful. The streets fill hours before the procession begins and finding a good viewing spot requires arriving early. Local tourism offices can advise on exact dates.
