The Baroque palace at the centre of Pszczyna was rebuilt in its current form in the 1870s for the von Hochberg family and is now one of the best-preserved aristocratic residences in Poland. The interior is remarkably intact — room after room of original furnishings, portraits, porcelain, and weapons, much of it untouched since the family fled in 1945. The Hall of Mirrors, a scaled-down nod to Versailles, is the showpiece, but the private apartments are just as interesting for the glimpse they give of 19th-century aristocratic life. Audio guides are available in English.
