Sanok Castle stands above the river on the edge of the old centre. The building has medieval roots, but the real draw is inside: the Historical Museum's icon collection and its exceptional gallery of Zdzislaw Beksinski, the Sanok-born painter of ruined dreamscapes, skeletal figures, and uneasy silence.
The Beksinski rooms make Sanok more than a pleasant regional town. Even if you know nothing about Polish modern art, the work is hard to forget.
