Oginski Palace

The Oginski Palace is an 18th-century residence built for the powerful Oginski family at the height of their influence in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Baroque building now houses parts of Siedlce University, which gives it a slightly incongruous academic atmosphere, but the exterior architecture and the surrounding park are well worth seeing.

The palace anchors the historic district of Siedlce and is among the best-preserved Baroque residences in the Masovian region. The adjacent park has been maintained as public green space. Access to the interior depends on university activities; the exterior and grounds can be visited freely at most times.

A story
The palace was built for Aleksander Oginski, a noble from one of the most powerful families in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth — the same Oginski family that produced Michał Kleofas Oginski, composer of the famous "Polonaise in A minor" that came to be known as the "Farewell to the Fatherland."
