The Great Market Square is the reason Zamość makes sense at first glance. It is a near-square Renaissance forum, enclosed by arcaded merchant houses and dominated by the town hall's high tower and theatrical staircase.
The Armenian houses on the northern side are the richest facades, but the whole square matters more than any single building. Stand in the middle and the old idea of an ordered private city is still easy to read.
