The synagogue was built in the early 17th century, when Zamość's Jewish community was central to the city's trading life. Its plain exterior gives way to a finely proportioned Renaissance interior, restored after long postwar decline.
Today it works as a cultural centre and museum space. It is the most direct place in the old town to understand how large and visible Jewish Zamość once was.
