Boa Nova Sanctuary, formally the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Assunção da Boa Nova, is a fortified Gothic church in open country near Terena. It looks more like a small defensive block than a village church, which is exactly what makes it memorable.
The setting is the point: white stone, dry fields, and a building that seems to belong as much to the border wars as to pilgrimage. It is one of the strongest reasons to include Alandroal on an Alentejo back-road loop.
